E46 BMW M3 - Automotive Legend in the Making

Pros:
I own a 2005 Mystic Blue Metallic with Dove Grey interior M3 with the 6speed Manual. I. Love. This. Car. It's been my dream car since I first saw the E46 body style back in 2001. Flooring the car in second gear on an interstate on-ramp is just bliss. Taking corners that most would brake for at speed is soooo fun. Everyone that's seen my car compliments on how great it looks - and those that know what the M means have a covetous look in their eyes. The seating is aggressive yet comfortable making you feel like part of the car. Steering is quick and precise with great road feel.
Cons:
Maintenance. Very expensive car to keep running. Inspection I isn't too bad, but Inspection II runs about $1500. Oil isn't cheap either - Castrol TWS 10w-60, though you can find oil change kits on community sites for about $100 + S&H. Then there's the big problem - VANOS exhaust cam bolts back out, VANOS hub tabs shear off (both can utterly destroy the engine) SMG pumps fail... When they do, very VERY expensive to fix, especially the transmission. They aren't made anymore, so you can't repair it - you have to find a used one.
Overall review:
Aside from the fear of VANOS or SMG issues lingering in the rear of your head when you're not driving this car, when you get in, they fade away to the tune of 7900rpms of automotive bliss. If you get this car, do yourself a favor and near the end of your tire's life, go to a track day and smoke them out and really see what this car is about. An automotive legend in the making.
