Mazda is a poor man's Toyota in quality.

Trim: 2001 Mazda Protege LX, Owned 3 years.

Pros:
Ton's of underhood corrosion. A bad battery, a defective window regulator, and rust on rear emblems and wrear window frames. This with only 28K miles. IF you live in snow country, and want your cars to last, buy a Toyota instead. I believe that Mazda Japan ( I'm in the car business ) trys to be environmentally sound and thereby does NOT use the most durable chemicals and components that can be had. This might make them good earth stewarts, but a poopy car company IF you live in the snow belts. This is my last Mazda product and I own this, and a 2002 Miata.
Cons:
see above.
Overall review:
Buy one used as they sink like a rock.
