Not Convinced-Yet by An MSN Autos Consumer on 04/08/2014. Trim: 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class GL450 4MATIC.

Pros: Excellent smooth and quiet ride. Comfortable seating. 3rd row seat acceptable given vehicle size.
Cons: Step up running board is not that functional-vehicle sits almost low enough without the need but may be high enough for others-and is a bit narrow anyway. Pricey options-although GL's I saw were comparably priced to its competitors. Quality and reliability concern. See note below.
Overall review: Recently test drove both the diesel GL350 and gas GL450 to replace the truck-like ride of my late model Infiniti QX56 but also needed a 3rd row seat for teenagers and their friends. Diesel engine power and torque OK but not as near as strong as the gas version GL450. Great acceleration (for passing or freeway entrance) on the GL450 vs. GL350 and was impressive for the GL450. Overall fit and finish of interior is good for its class. However, during the "demo", the automatic second row flip seats did not work on one vehicle. We looked at a second vehicle and one of the two seats did not work. "Once a fluke, twice a pattern." This poor (and very) obvious experience kept me from purchasing-even before trade-in negotiations. This should not be an issue on an $80,000 vehicle-and does raise my concern regarding other potential issues down the road. The quality program at the Alabama factory needs a second look.
