The Best All-Around Truck for a Great Price by Full-Size-Truck-Lover on 12/19/2013. Trim: 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 1LT Crew Cab 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: The new 2014 Silverado comes in five configurations: regular cab with standard or long box; double cab with standard box, or crew cab with short or standard box. It comes with a great selection of quality, performance, fuel efficient EcoTec3 engines. The 185hp V-6 4.3-liter engine is great for owners who don't pull trailers. The 355 hp V-8 5.3-liter engine has 385 lb-ft of torque, which is great for towing. The 420 hp V-8 6.2-liter has 420 lb-ft of torque. The towing capacity ranges from 4,500 (V-6) up to 12,000 lbs (V-8). These engines are designed to operate on just four cylinders in lighter load conditions, such as highway cruising, to improve fuel economy & save you money.
Cons: The leather seats should be a feature offered in the LT model, instead of just the LTZ and High Country. The Onstar phone minutes cost too much. But, this road warrior is designed to work hard, keep you comfortable, connected with associates/loved ones, and entertain you while driving, and keep you safe (5-star crash ratings and Onstar). Resale value for all new vehicles take a 25% reduction when you drive them off the new car lot. However, the crew cab has a lot of interior room and normally maintains the best resale value.
Overall review: I have owned six trucks and believe the 2014 Chevrolet Siverado has finally achieved an all-around level of excellence inside (comfort and features), outside (body design, color choices, bed lengths), and performance (engine choices, towing capability, bed load capability), etc. The interior is comfortable with a lot of options to make driving a very pleasant experience. Strongly recommend side-steps for short people or anyone with back issues. The USBs and 110V power outlet are very handy for recharging electronics. The rear vision camera is calibrated to make it very easy to back up to within inch(es) of objects. No one should own a truck without a rear camera or backing sensors. The ABS, Hill Start Assist, StabiliTrak and Trailer Sway Control give the Duralife brake rotors a real work out, fortunately they are designed for it. The new heavy-duty brakes, rotors, etc. that will last over 100,000 miles for most owners, which makes them virtually maintenance-free.
