New for 2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata

The 2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata receives a number of upgrades for the 2009 model year. Visual changes include new 16- and 17-inch wheel designs as well as updates to the headlights, taillights and side sills. Horsepower increases slightly to 167 horsepower while fuel economy increases by 1 mpg for both transmissions. Suspension has also been upgraded. Inside the audio system has been updated with MP3/WMA playback, auxiliary-audio input jack and two additional speakers. Touring models get an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, premium finish instrument panel and trip computer, while the top-level Grand Touring adds automatic air conditioning and a 5-position seat heater.

Short Take

The redesigned MX-5 is fun and agile, yet fairly civilized and affordable. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder and standard six-speed manual are a joy to use. A paddle-shifting six-speed automatic is optional. A power retractable hard top is available. Reliability has been above average.
