The 2008 Lexus IS F is powered by a 416-horsepower 5.0-liter combined with an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission that Lexus describes as combining the best performance characteristics of an automated manual transmission with the smoothness and refinement of a torque-converter automatic. The driver can shift manually using either the console shift or steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and when downshifting the throttle is automatically and precisely blipped to match engine rpm to vehicle speed. The IS F features sports car driving dynamics with lowered sport-tuned suspension and 19-inch wheels fitted with either Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 or Bridgestone Potenza tires designed specifically for the IS F. The Lexus Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management is specifically calibrated for the IS F and heavy-duty Brembo brakes with 6-pistion front calipers are fitted.

Fast 4 door! by malujerry on 05/29/2010. Trim: 2008 Lexus IS F 8-Speed Direct, Owned 1 year.

Pros: I've had this car for a year. I compared this to the M3 and C63 which were costing me about $15k more after options. I have absolutely NO regrets now!
Cons: The back seats are small, ride is a little stiff/bouncey, and this car is heavy. Being an automatic used to be a negative, but now I will not go back to manual after learning how to use these shift paddles.
Overall review: I can't recommend anything else that's faster and worth the price difference besides the GTR.
