Big Bang for your Low initial payment by Dan from California on 01/22/2013. Trim: 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.0L 2WD, Owned 5 years.
Useful?
Pros: amazing bang for your buck, much sturdier frame/structure than say a lexus RX. Comfort is top notch, imagine driving your sofa on the FWY. Reliable and Cheap to maintain. V6 is slow even compared to other SUVs but it has plenty of low end torque.
Cons: Liar MPG gauge, yes the gauge would read avg 19 - 20, but if you do the math at the gas station at it's best it would be 14. so the dashbord MPG reading is way way optimistic, MPG is pretty poor, city only with a light foot you'd get about 14, if you use the A/C you're looking at 12-13 MPG. Highway gets appx 20, if you use AC drops down to about 18-19. (real world calculations not the dashboard BS)
Overall review: if you got money to blow on gas, there is for sure no better bang for your buck than this. The V6 is the neanderthal of engines making low power and drinking gas like it's free. I'd buy it again sure, just not in the V6.
