2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

The 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid is a new version of the Mariner for 2006. The gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain combines a 2.3-liter DOHC Duratec four-cylinder engine with an Atkinson operating cycle with two AC electric motors that provide both motor and generator functions. The power is delivered through an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT), and electric power is stored in 250 D-size nickel-metal hydride batteries in a compact, rear-mounted, sealed package. Fuel economy is estimated at 33 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
