HYBRID or not a HYBRID? by Odey on 08/23/2011. Trim: 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid CVT w/ Navigation System, Owned 1 year.

Pros: Love the styling, dash board, handling, braking and NAVIGATION / PDA (it's much more than just navigation).
Cons: Poor HYBRID performance. For some reason HONDA can't or won't figure out how to keep these things running like a HYBRID. Mine has a zero deductible extended warranty and they have been replacing and tweaking things (except for the IMA battery) and they can't get it to charge properly, hold a charge, run like a hybrid before 30 minutes of run time, and even then it only runs like a hybrid for about 5 - 10 minutes before the IMA battery is back down to 2 bars and needs to be charged. It handles steep mountain roads like they don't exist at 40mpg (go figure). Road noise is abominable. I mean how do you use voice commands on the NAV without slowing down or pulling over?
Overall review: I want to love it, but the jury is still out. I've had fleeting moments of 42-49 mpg with fun driving, so like my GOLF swing, I know the capability is there, I would just like to have it always. If HONDA ever gets it right (and I'm sure they will) I'll come back and give it a recommend buy...but I can't right now. If I didn't have the extended warranty, I'd be furious right now. But I am frustrated. Sorry HONDA.
