Overall review:
I'm a single mom with two teenagers who was looking for a second car. (First car is an SUV.) I initially looked at small imports (Jetta, Audis, etc.). I could not feel comfortable in any of them. Then, on a lark, I drove a Ford Five Hundred. I was shocked at how much I liked it! Comfortable, solid, and lots of window space. I have a thing about having good visibility all around, and this car offers GREAT visibility--an especially important characteristic for young drivers.
So, yes, it's kind of a grandpa car, but it is a dream to drive. The car has 76K miles, and feels almost new. And because it's not the prettiest thing ever built, you can get a GREAT deal! I paid less than $10K out the door -- and that's less than I'd have paid for a much smaller, more stripped down car. VERY happy.
I did the research: high reliability ratings, decent mileage (for the tank that it is), and outstanding safety ratings.
Don't overlook this car because it's plain. It's a great car!
