diesal power! by Husker Mark on 06/19/2010. Trim: 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Mega Cab 4WD, Owned 4 years.

Pros: Power personified!!! CUMMINS Diesal Power! About says it all! My mileage was around 15 mpg until 25k then went thru the roof. I drove(with witness, fully loaded with welders, steel, tools around 4000 lbs estimated) from Omaha to Fargo on a business trip, 418 miles on 10.4 gallons of diesal with 45k miles on motor at the time! Worst I can do is 24 in city mileage. Mileage hardly goes down towing! I still get 32 mpg hauling 19ft Crestliner to Canada fishing every Summer!
Cons: U joints replaced 3 times, front end rebuilt entirely (including pitman arms) and brakes 2 times in 100k miles(caliper pins rubber boots corrode easily and cause one pin not to adjust so one side of brake pad is doing all the stopping). Hops around in 4 wheel drive when all tires slipping, traction control system would be a plus in 4 wheel drive. I agree with paint too thin, scratches easily. I do use my truck to the fullest! I am the true gorilla with the suitcase in my truck!
Overall review: I think for the work I put the truck thru it has held up remarkably well, some of my issues I am sure have been addressed in later models but EPA screwed up the diesal mileage in 2007 so as long as diesal remains high $ I won't look to trade up anytime soon to cash in on the improvements,6 to 10 mpg is not a trade off for 2 brake jobs in 100k miles. I love my Mega Cab, so does my wife, new crew cabs of GM and Ford are like fitting into the backseat of a Prius in comparison. Yes ,the kids fight for the Backseat instead of the front seat!
