New for 2006 BMW 3-Series

The 2006 BMW 3-Series Sedan debuts with an all-new design that blends 3-Series character with new styling elements from the 7-Series and the 5-Series. Riding on a new 5-link rear suspension, the 3-Series Coupe boasts a new double-pivot front suspension with spring struts made of aluminum and has a near 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution. The 2006 BMW 3-Series will be offered as the 325i Sedan and 330i Sedan, followed in the fall by all-wheel-drive versions. Both sedans are powered by new inline six-cylinder engines that use magnesium/aluminum composite for reduced weight and include the first use of BMW VALVETRONIC for a six-cylinder engine. The 330i sedan is powered by a 255-horsepower 3.0-liter with 220 lb-ft of torque and the 325i sedan is powered by a 215-horsepower 3.0-liter with 185 lb-ft of torque.

Introduction

The 3-Series is BMW's entry-level model in the near-luxury segment, offered in sedan, coupe, convertible and wagon versions. The 3-Series Sedan and 3-Series Sports Wagon are redesigned and updated for the 2006 model year while the coupe and convertible carryover the 2005 styling for 2006. A descendant of the mid-'60s BMW 1600, considered by many automotive enthusiasts to be the first compact sedan to offer sports-car performance, the 3-Series has continued to be the benchmark of sport sedans. The 3-Series designation first appeared in America in 1977, and the car evolved from a rather boxy shape to a fluid, aerodynamic design and the sedan and wagon now incorporate BMW’s new design language. The previous-generation 3-Series sedan was introduced as a 1999 model.

Handling has always been a BMW strong suit and the new 325i brings plenty of cornering agility to the table.
