The Mariner is a new addition to the Mercury lineup for 2005, powered by either a 153-horsepower 2.3-liter Duratec 23 inline 4-cylinder or a 200-horsepower 3.0-liter Duratec 30 V6, both paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Mariner is available in either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with an Intelligent 4WD System that automatically transfers torque from the front wheels to the rear wheels when needed.

Sweetest Small SUV by Mark on 06/28/2005. Trim: 2005 Mercury Mariner Premier 2WD, Owned 1 year.

Pros: Handling, room and comfort and ability to carry cargo very well. The fuel economy is always in the twenty to twenty-four mpg range.

Cons: Nothing

Overall review: The car has been superb in all areas. I have driven from the lowlands of the USA through the mountains. I know cars, and this one is a "must have" for SUV people.
