Flashy but not too fast by Texas Tib on 07/31/2009. Trim: 2003 Hyundai Tiburon Base, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Great style, lots of "options" for other cars are standard (pwr window/lock, spoiler, etc). Pretty quiet unless you break the 5k rpm mark. Great gas mileage. Pretty comfortable (I made a 1200 mile, 1 day road trip from Dallas Tx to Daytona Fl with no real discomfort.). Great handling, good feel on the wheel. Manual transmission turns a mediocre car into a fun little car. FOG LIGHTS! They're great, major assistance to the primary headlights, just as bright and actually light the road up better. A blast to drive, especially on the highway. Can easily pass other cars at highway speeds. Stock 16" tires great for daily driving, Ithey are touring/sedan tires though, not really sport oriented.
Cons: The clutch is a little weak, grinds sometimes in aggressive driving (especially 1st-2nd). Terrible paint (spoiler looks terrible, gills are fading, fuel door looks as bad as the spoiler now). There is no spoilerless trim, even though the car looks great without it. Rear wiper sticks out ridiculously, and the huge antenna makes the car look like an RC car. I'm having electrical problems with the hatch unlock switch. Headlights are a pain to change out. Sun visor so small its practically useless. I4 engine is not particularly weak, but doesnt put out enough power to match the car's looks. Aftermarket & performance parts are very expensive compared to japanese cars, few sources.
Overall review: Beautiful car, but not enough HP to back up the looks. A great car for someone who wants a nice looking car with great gas mileage that is not dime a dozen, but a sport enthusiast should beware that though there is aftermarket support, it's limited and expensive. The car in its base/I4 form feels pretty like a focus or lancer, just in two doors with far sexier sheet metal. Overall, a great car, especially for the price, but too heavy and expensive to be a real tuner car. It is fun to drive stock, with exceptional handling and a relatively quiet engine that puts out an average amount of HP for the 2.0 displacement. Always feels like it's moving slower than it is, a great desire to speed will accompany you as you drive it.
