Owner
First New Car, Substandard Used Car
by Danny, Baltimore, MD on 10/11/2004.
Trim: 2002 Mitsubishi Mirage DE, Owned 2 years.

Pros:
Cheap on gas, nice stereo, comfortable front seats.
Cons:
Lack of power (only 93 hp), nothing to excite you. Paint scratches very easily. Looks like a cheap Civic. Horrible resale value. High insurance compared to better, more expensive cars.
Overall review:
This was my first new car, I bought after graduating college. I've had it over 2 years, and it's treated me very well. The only maintenance problem was a shorted O2 sensor, cost around $300 at the dealership to repair. Dealer also found a faultly pipe in the catalytic converted and replaced under warranty. I have about 48,000 miles and dealerships are only offering about $2,800 to $3,000 for trade-ins. When comparing insurance to a Nissan Sentra SE-R, I found the Nissan's insurance to be cheaper. Apparently replacement parts after and accident are more expensive and the car is more likely to be totalled. My recommendation, skip the Mirage. Find a Civic or Corolla instead.
