Introduction
The Z3 was the first of a new wave of German roadsters that was introduced in early 1996. The Z3 is the first BMW roadster to be sold in America since 1959, when the legendary 507 was discontinued. While the Z3's retro styling has the feel of classic roadsters, the car is thoroughly modern, foregoing no creature comfort or ergonomic consideration. In its first year, the entire production run was sold out by the time the car was introduced. In '97, the Z3 2.8 offered enthusiasts a more powerful 6-cylinder engine, and last year, a coupe was added to the lineup. Built exclusively at BMW's newest plant located in South Carolina, the Z3 is the first BMW roadster produced in relatively large numbers.
