Toyota's sporty coupe was introduced in 1971, and it proved popular at a time when young people found high insurance rates to be the major obstacle to owning a V8 Mustang or Camaro. Like most cars, the Celica grew in size and sophistication as the years passed. The fourth-generation Celica debuted in 1986, adopting front-wheel drive and eventually spawning the turbocharged 4-wheel-drive All-Trac model. The 2000 model year marked the debut of the seventh-generation Celica.
