What's New

Yukon XL is the new name for the GMC version of the full-size sport utility that shares a platform with Chevrolet Suburban. The Yukon XL is a completely new design for 2000, incorporating the look and features of the new-generation Sierra pickup trucks introduced in 1999. In addition to a new frame design, the new Yukon XL features better handling with the new Autoride suspension. New seat designs have also been introduced, and the Vortec 5300 engine offers increased horsepower.

Shake,Rattle and Roll!! by Sara,MI on 05/04/2002. Trim: 2000 GMC Yukon XL 2500 2WD, Owned 2 years.

Pros: After 2 yrs I can still say ride and safety are excellent,appearance still a head turner and mileage (usingmid-grade gas) is about 20mpg around town-22 highway.

Cons: By 6000 mi we were experiencing loose steering and odd rear end sound.Finally by 20,000 we got dealer to admit there were problems but he said only the new "trucks" had these-steering shaft was falling apart;rear seal shot;universal joint shot;and FINALLY at 36,000 they changed fluid in rear end which seems to have cured noise but GM denied claim,saying fluids are not covered-however,THERE WAS ODD NOISE PRIOR 20,000 mi AND ITS GONE!We paid a lot for this vehicle and we do baby it-these problems are NOT due to ABUSE.Paint is weak-very thin coverage and easily chipped.

Overall review: Dealersays we have a lemon in the line-overall we have enjoyed this SUV but do not anticipate we will see the 215,000 we got from our trade-in '87 Suburban.Already this has seen dealer more!
