Pros:
I love it! I've been all over the west with it, Arizona and Northern California, had no problems during trips other then stuff I inflicted :) Handling is superb, much better then my SUV. Highly recommended, and you can get a brand new 2002 or 2003 model for about 60-70k if you shop around. Check out LynchHummer.com and Humvee.net! Great community of supporting enthusiasts with diverse interests. I run biodiesel 100% of the time - see pacfuel.com and biodiesel.org
Cons:
Not for the timid. Noisy and Slow, top recommended cruising speed is 65 - I try to stay under 70. AC poor, unusable in some circumstances due to heat buildup. Interior is very rough, and the hummer WILL bite you pretty badly if you're not careful. Maintenance and repairs are extremely expensive, $1200 for a 12,000 mile tuneup.
Overall review:
Get it if you can. Be aware that it is NOT a daily driver, you don't want to commute in this car. Insurance is much cheaper if you register as a recreation/occasional use vehicle but you have to provide you mileage each year. Great fun for offroading, but definitely get the feeling of "roughing it" - it's not a lexus!
