Pros:
On-going saga of a great little car. Excellent fuel economy. 35-38 mpg summer, 30-32 winter. Easy to park, great interior space for a little car. Fantastic reliability. Car is going on 7 yrs. with original battery, headlights, exhaust, clutch. For a small wagon it's got looks. Good visiblity. Car has 138,000 miles.Very easy to work on and do my own maintainence.Ratings above are based on my car with its current mileage. My car has the smaller 1.6L engine.
Cons:
It's light so wind moves it around a bit. I live in the land of road salt, so I'm just beginning to see some surface rust this winter.Timing belt. Suzuki has solved this problem in their new cars with a chain. An economy car that needs $300-$400 belt job every 60,000mi. takes some of the economy away.
Overall review:
Although I took a chance on this car when I bought it,(Suzuki???), I've come to be a believer in the brand. I did the same thing in 1972 when I took a chance on Subaru and they never let me down either. However; Subaru became to pricey and mileage went down. I'm probably going to give this car to my H.S. senior when he goes off to college this fall and then look into getting myself a new Aerio SX, if I can actually find a Front wheel drive 5sp. Seems like all the dealers have are AWD autos, and I want the extra performance of a manual along with the fuel economy even though I live in an area that gets 120" of snow a year.
