It's been more than a decade since Chevrolet brought out a new full-size truck. The 1999 model year ushers in the next-generation pickup with all-new styling, features, and even a new name for GM's best-selling vehicle. A lineup of new engines is also available for the new truck. The Silverado is described by the automaker as "Bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter." The Silverado 2500 is designed for heavier-duty applications than the Silverado 1500. It comes with standard V8 power and higher gross weight ratings—up to 8,600 pounds.

1999 Chevy 2500 by Dave from NM on 02/12/2002. Trim: 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 LS Ext. Cab Short Bed 4WD, Owned 2 years.

Pros: Power and pickup, smooth riding on highway. Appearance is good
Cons: Lack of 4th door, gas mileage, random brake problems. Wish I had a long bed.
Overall review: Excellant truck, it replaced a 1997 1/2 ton 4WD which was very nice, but the 2500 is a real truck for hauling.
