A 5-speed manual is the standard transmission, with the option of upgrading to a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic. Optional items include leather trim, a power glass sunroof, a CD changer and heated front seats.

Introduction

The Volkswagen Passat Wagon was first introduced to America in 1990 as successor to the midsize Quantum. In the fall of 1997, the all-new 1998 Passat sedan went on sale, and it is now joined by a wagon. The new Passat Wagon (Passat refers to a European wind) is slightly larger than its predecessor, and shares the sedan's stylish, eye-catching lines. The wagon went on sale in the spring of 1998. Currently only the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is available, but the powerful VR6 and economical TDI engines will be available later in the model year.
