Overall very happy van driver by JT in Denver on 03/18/2009. Trim: 1998 Dodge Caravan Grand ES, Owned 10 years.
Pros: Great overall design. Good passenger space. Can tow my travel trailer. Good performance. 24+ mpg on highway at 65-80 mph with 3.8L. Solid vehicle. Other family members always volunteer my van when trips are over 400 miles. Guess they like the ride and the Infinity sound system. Leather seats are very comfortable. Low cost on maintenance so far in 100K miles.
Cons: Seats are a bit difficult to remove when I need to haul dry wall and 2x4s. Has 100K miles so engine now drips 5 drops per week so need to clean driveway evry few months. Guess I really should tighten those valve covers. One side door rattles over heavy potholes. Headlights did fog so bought replacement housings. Still a weak compared to my 92 Caravan but it had the big headlights. My sister hates it won't go more than 100 mph. She's a lead foot. Gets 10 mpg when she drives I70.
Overall review: Kid down the block won't strightline drag me with his Supra after I blew his doors off. Guess his friends harrass him about the old fuddie with the van. Transmsission and engine at 100K miles and still strong. Never had a problem except with sluggish shift sensor that needed to be replaced. Do all oil and transmission flluid changes per schedule. Finally replaced rear drums at 90K miles. Replaced front rotors and pads twice in 100K miles. Odd to read about all the problems others have had with the transsissions and engines. This has been the best of my 5 Dodge vans. Never lost a transmssion or engine in any of them. Never had any trim fall off as others have complained. Plan to keep it until it has a very nasty breakdown. Looking with interest at the 2009 Dodge Grand.
