Excellent SUV
by TahoeLover in STL MO on 08/17/2009.
Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe 4-Door 4WD, Owned 3 years.

Pros:
Plenty of room front and back. I'm 6' tall and, while driving, I can strech my left leg all the way out and lock my knee if i want. Sitting in the back seat may not be as comfortable, but is still comfortable enough to not to get cramps in your legs when sitting for several hours. Plenty enough room for storage in the rear. One reviewer said he fit a queen size mattress in the back, I believe it (folded seats down of course). Great traction and handling in off-road situations and during inclimate weather.
Cons:
Not really much to complain about... 160K miles and only major repairs were a water pump and a fuel pump. Estimated gas mileage was 12-16 mpg when these trucks were new, I'm still getting 12 mpg in the city and 15 mpg on the highway, and I have a heavy foot.
Overall review:
1998 was the first year for the Auto 4wd, so you could drive it in 2wd, Auto 4wd (which is like 2wd, but when the rear tires start slipping it kicks the 4wd in automatically), 4wd Hi, or 4wd Lo. IT's the last of the REAL SUV's, seems like any newer and instead of having a tail-gate you'd have a hatchback. It's the SUV that was meant for some off-road use, before they started making them for use as an over-sized mini-van by soccer moms that never use the 4wd and even if they did use the 4wd only used it in snow.
