Introduction
Flagship of the Jeep brand, the Grand Cherokee is aimed at the upscale sport-utility buyer. It was introduced in 1992, and in 1993 became the first in its class to offer a V8 engine as an option. Unlike its competitors, the Grand Cherokee features unibody construction, which makes for a stiffer body and allows the suspension to be tuned for better ride and handling. The Grand Cherokee received an exterior face-lift and new interior for 1996; the 1997 model gets minor refinements. Two-wheel-drive models feature class-leading towing capacity. The Grand Cherokee is not only a big seller in America, but a hit in overseas markets as well.
