1997 Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai's entry in the highly competitive midsize sedan segment originally debuted in 1989. Though like all Hyundais it offered a high level of standard equipment at a lower price than its competition, it was never more than a minor player in the segment. A completely redesigned 1995 model experienced a 25 percent increase in sales over its predecessor, and Hyundai hopes the face-lifted 1997 Sonata will continue this trend. The car features a new nose, rear treatment and side moldings that create more of a family resemblance to Hyundai's smaller sedans. Particular attention has been paid to reducing noise and vibration, and the Sonata continues to match the features of the class leaders at a significantly lower price.
