Would do it again by An MSN Autos Consumer on 02/25/2004. Trim: 1993 Dodge Dakota Club Cab 6.5-ft. Bed 2WD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Very strong front end. All original except for shocks and rotors. Only one alignment in 113,000 miles. V-8 very reliable and easy to maintain or repair. Acceleration and handling very good. Split bench seat very comfortable for long trips. Ideal size for local traffic and parking. Paint in good shape. No rust anywhere. Not a single rattle or squeak yet. Factory exhaust in good shape. Very powerful climate control
Cons: Poor fuel economy. Ten to twelve MPG around town, sixteen to seventeen MPG highway. Road noise an issue over rough surfaces as is wind noise around the mirrors at speeds over 60 MPH. No indicator light for the cruise control. Tranmission rebuilt at 98,000 miles. Add shift correction kit for improved shifting and increased reliability. Rear end also rebuilt at 98,000 miles. Limited slip unit is one that Ford stopped using years ago (cone in cone). Call DANA for clutch pack. Works better and is indestructable. Gas gauge works part of the time.
Overall review: Will keep for several more years. Will most likely buy another one. Has generally been very good and reliability quite good. Very easy to maintain/repair for the do-it-yourselfer. Handling crisp even when pushed to the limit. Use good LT rated tires (Yokohama Geolander HT/S or Pirelli Scorpin AT) for the best results. V-8 smooth and almost to powerful. Handles loads very well except fuel economy suffers significantly. Structurally, this truck is very sound.
