Indestructible little tank!

Trim: 1991 Volkswagen Passat GL, Owned 4 years.

Pros:
It gets good mileage for a heavyish vehicle, and back in '91 I don't think fuel economy was that important. The handling is superb, you never get a feeling of insecurity in curves or when going very fast (not that its legal to go that fast...just sayin') like you would in other vehicles. As others have said, lots of little things go wrong with it, BUT it is indestructible, it was the Danish army's vehicle. Mine is 21 years old, no rust and is my daily driver. And it doesn't look like its 21 years old. It's unique, it's not hard finding it in the shopping mall parking lot.
Cons:
Cost of parts but I think thats due to quality (theres no rust under my hood, and I cant say that about many vehicles of the same age that run regularly).
Its not a winter champion, it takes a while for the heat to get going but that may be typical of cars back then. But it always starts without a boost (theres no plug), unless its colder than -25Celsius. Also not a lover of very humid weather.
Overall review:
It can be a problematic car for those uninterested in getting to know the car. But if you're a willing do it yourselfer, theres lots of help from VW gurus in online forums etc so you don't have to run to the garage every little time. And don't trust your VW to just any mechanic, do your research, ask other VW owners where they go. Because a mechanic will never say he cant fix it. And prior to 1994, these came straight from Germany, they weren't built in the U.S. which makes it different, and your mechanic probably just learned American/Asian cars, So I wouldn't trust this car to someone who isn't a VW specialist..
