Our Fine Reliable Ride by Jeep Lover on 08/16/2008. Trim: 1989 GMC S15 Pickup Ext. Cab 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: We purchased this truck new in Spring 1989. It now has 125,000 miles on it and still runs great. It has the 2.8V6 which even though it isn't the most powerful engine, it definately is tough. The truck handles fine in the snow. Although we use our Wrangler for snow travel these days, the S-15 is always ready to blast through.
Cons: The biggest dislike about the truck is the puny 2.8V6. In 1989, the only way to get the 5-speed manual tranny was coupled with the 2.8. We really wanted the 4.3Vortec, but did not prefer the automatic tranny. If we had it to do all over, we would opt for the automatic so we could get the Vortec.
Overall review: Overall, I would buy another S-15 if they were still made. This truck has never left us stranded and has been a very reliable vehicle. I get SO tired of Americans ragging on American made vehicles. I have proof that they are every bit as good as their foreign counterparts.
