S-10 Envy by Oldie in Arkansas on 08/09/2010. Trim: 1988 Chevrolet S10 Pickup Reg. Cab Short Bed 2WD, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: You ENTER the S-10 to drive it --- no climbing up into it or crawling down into it. The V6 has been good although I have no figures on gas mileage to share, but what vehicle from 1988 doesn't love gas pumps? No rust. Like the fact that you feel as though you are DRIVING.
Cons: I dislike the fact that I can't find anything to replace it.
Overall review: This particular S-10 has been a gem to me. It was purchased used more than ten years ago and it now has 257,000+ miles on it. I have driven it cross-country recently.Buying another 1988 would take careful examination, following some of the guidelines MSN has pointed out (acorns in the glovebox,i.e.). There was a problem with the paint and there was a recall but it was no longer under warranty, so I painted the troubled areas myself (wet sand, primer, etc.) Not a bad job for an old man. My 1988 S-10 has not been a disappointment over the years.
