Roomy but high maintenance!! by Phone Phanatic from Oregon on 03/25/2010. Trim: 1988 Chevrolet Astro CS, Owned 5 years.
Pros: I love the room in it. Has lots of room for hauling around 7 ppl on a daily basis and for grocery shopping has lots of room. I Like the captain seats in the front and middle seats. It sits high over other vehicles and sits on a truck frame. It feels like driving a truck.
Cons: Had to replace alternator 4 times in 5 yrs. Had to rebuilt starter twice in the 5 yrs we have owned the van. Have to change spark plugs every 6 months. Burns too much oil. Has had the transmission changed and put new water pump on it. The harmonic balancer is going out and it has a vibration that even a experienced mechanic in the business for over 35 yrs dont know whats wrong with it. Too difficult to get under the hood to do any spark plug changes at home or do it yourself repairs. It is definately a very expensive vehicle to own but very nice to drive. High maintenance for sure...
Overall review: Overall its a nice van with lots of room but too many probs after driving it for 5 yrs its pretty much on its last leg. Going to have to trade it in for another van. I got used to having lots of room for everyone.
