A Masterpiece by DM from Victoria BC, Canada on 11/10/2009. Trim: 1988 BMW 635 CSI, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Everything. Silky ride, awesome performance, build quality, reliability, comfort, phenomenal breaking power, panoramic views (absolute visibility), and of course ... style ... the most beautiful BMW coupe ever. The original BMW sound is better than any contemporary CD or MP3 player, three-dimensional, with pristine treble and warm bass. Not for everyone though, this very special car, as with good architecture or music, needs someone special to appreciate it. If you are an art-lover, if you value beauty, you will adore it. Expect these discreet cars to raise in value, future classic status guaranteed. If you have one, take good care of it, if you don't, find a good one and resurrect it.
Cons: Good on gas in proportion to performance, but, with a capacity of only 63 litres, the fuel tank is too small (it has an average range of approximately 400 kms per tank.) Also, I wish BMW engineers of that era had included the adjustability of the instruments dashboard and steering wheel that the Porsche 928 had ... the steering wheel is a little too high, which nullifies the telescopic adjusting capability. Other than that, expect perfection.
Overall review: It is the year 2009 and my 1988 635 CSI looks more modern than most cars today (including the mediocre-Hyundai-looking newer BMW's). It also has something that they don't have: Character. Its geometry and architecture are a masterpice, the interior space seems to have been designed by Mies Van Der Rohe, Le Corbusier, or Charles Eames (my car has the black leather option with sports seats, in like-new condition). Just look at aaaall this green glass around you, a continuous, uninterrupted window to contemplate the world go by silently, so gorgeous! ... a vessel of freedom. Now, drive it ... oh yes! ... you are going to want to move to the countryside ... faaaaar away from your work, so that you can drive it, and drive it, and drive it ... forever.
