Introduction
Starting with the Chrysler C-300 in 1955, Chrysler "letter series" cars were designed to set the standard for performance and engineering excellence in the sport sedan segment during the 1950s and 1960s. It has been more than 30 years since Chrysler built a 300 letter series car, dating back to the 300L in 1965. For 1999 Chrysler introduced the 300M sport sedan, a modern version of the earlier letter series cars. While all previous letter series models were powered by large V8 engines, the 300M features a high-output, all-aluminum V6. While the majority of 300M sales will be in America, it was designed with international markets in mind, and has become the image leader for the Chrysler brand overseas. A new 300M Special model was added for 2002.
