New for 2003 Acura CL

The Acura CL is available with a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission for the 2003 model year. Other changes include revised styling and upgrades safety features.

Introduction

Acura's first U.S.-built car was introduced in 1996 as a 1997 model. Designed in California and built in Ohio, CL fits between the entry-level Integra and the TL sedans in the Acura lineup. The CL, built originally on the Accord coupe platform, was designed to appeal to American tastes and is aimed at empty-nesters seeking a comfortable, luxurious, sporty coupe. In 1998 the base CL received a larger, more powerful 2.3-liter engine, which resulted in a trim name change from 2.2CL to 2.3CL. The current generation CL went on sale in March 2000, and since 2001, the V6 is the sole power plant, with a high-output version of the engine powering the performance version, the Type-S.
