New for 2009 Nissan Z

The 2009 Nissan Z debuts the redesigned 370Z Coupe alongside the 350Z Roadster that carries over the previous generation body style. The all-new 370Z is powered by a 332-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 engine. Two new high-tech transmissions are available, a 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic. The 6-speed manual features an industry-first synchronized downshift rev matching system that automatically adjusts engine speed when shifting to match the exact speed of the next gear, essentially “blipping” the throttle to match the engine rpm to the gear selected.

Short Take

The 350Z is a two-seater powered by a smooth-revving 3.5-liter V6. The manual gearbox feels slightly notchy. Handling is agile, and the stiff ride has been improved. The seat controls are awkward to use, but interior materials are better than early models. The convertible has a power-operated top. A redesigned Z coupe went on sale with an engine upgrade to 3.7 liters.
