The big news for the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta is the return of the Jetta TDI. The diesel-powered TDI is now compliant with emission regulations in all 50 states and is rated as high as 40 mpg on the highway. The 2.0-liter turbocharged direct injection (TDI) engine produces 140 horsepower and an impressive 236 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the TDI, the 2009 Jetta will be available as an S, SE, SEL and Wolfsburg Edition, the latter of which gets a more powerful 200-horsepower engine and available DSG gearbox. Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) and Cold Weather Package are both standard on all Jettas for 2009.
