New for 2009 MINI Cooper

The 2009 MINI Cooper remains primarily unchanged, having been redesigned just two years ago. However, there have been a number of upgrades for the new year, including the availability of Dynamic Traction Control (DTC). The Cooper continues to be availble as a base model with a 118-horsepower 1.6-liter engine or Cooper S with a 172-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter engine teamed with a 6-speed Getrag transmission. The John Cooper Works edition boosts power to 208 horsepower with a performance suspension, sport seats, chrome tailpipes and exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels. Currently available only as a hard top, the revised convertible is expected to debut later this year.

Short Take

The Mini hatchback is redesigned for 2007. Handling is very agile, with quick, precise steering and little body lean. The ride is still a bit choppy. The base engines are now more refined and the turbocharged one in the Cooper S is very punchy. The rear seat is very tight and some controls are confusing. A small wagon, called the Clubman, is also available.
