Definitely a great buy! by Sarah from Willoughby on 01/03/2005. Trim: 1997 Hyundai Elantra GLS, Owned 1 year.

Pros: Small and easy to manuever. Surprisely, a lot of interior and trunk space, more so than you would think from the outside. Rides smoothly. Wonderful fuel efficiency. Generally cost the same or less than similar cars from the same years. Looks sleek - not like a sports car, not like a luxury car, unique. Doesn't need many repairs at all, if any. Safety and efficiency is the goal in this car, and it is without a doubt met with excellency.
Cons: Doesn't accelerate quickly and the ride becomes rougher when travelling faster than 40 or 50. (Note: Need to keep up with tune ups regularly to prevent these things from happening) Repairs will take longer and usually cost more, since everything from tires to all the tools needed to fix anything under the hood need to be ordered special from most repair shops. Don't attempt to put in your own stereo, because it won't work - get a professional to do it for you and save the hassle. Finally, just to note, if you leave the key in the ignition and open your door, an extremely annoying beeping sound will occur continuously to alert you.
Overall review: Although it isn't exactly the "Mercedes Benz" of all cars, the Hyundai Elantra is quite a buy. With its great fuel efficiency and small size, it is a perfect first car, especially for new drivers. It is easy to manuever and very rarely has any problems with the engine, brakes, or anything else for that matter. May have difficulties finding necessary parts, however, if it does have problems, as most repair shops will need to order tools and parts. Also, I have found that it does not ride as smoothly at higher speeds, especially going very long distances, as compared to other cars, but it still gets you where you need to go. Hyundai Elantras are priced cheaper than most and absolutely worth every penny spent on them! I would definitely recommend this make and model of car!
