High Risk if You're on a Budget

Pros:
Took a test drive and was fairly impressed. Externally, this is a nice looking car that seems to drive and handle well. The interior material appears acceptable for the car class.
Cons:
Reliability is always a big concern and since no specific data is available for this model, you only have history as a guide.
(1) First year production of “any” new model car is historically very risky business with high repair and recall rates.
(2) This is a Fiat based car. With the exception of the new Fiat 500, Fiat hasn't sold cars in the US in over 30 years. They left because their cars were more unreliable than a Yugo.
(3) Chrysler is the producers of a number of vehicles on every “cars to avoid” list... Sebring & Town & Country etc are at the bottom of their class.
(4) With the exception of a Viper, I can’t think of one Chrysler built vehicle with a good resale value.
Overall review:
I generally liked the car and find it tempting. I find the dash trim a bit tacky however and the long term reliability too high risk for my taste and bank account. Economy doesn’t just mean gas mileage, it also means total cost of ownership and given this vehicles extremely poor pedigree, I consider this a risky purchase until it proves itself otherwise. I’ll likely wait for the face-lifted 2013 Civic or look for at a new Alantra.
