Great Conversion Van
by Spiczar from Tennessee on 12/13/2006.
Trim: 1998 Chevrolet Express G1500, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
It is very roomy & comfortable. My van has the MK III conversion, which adds a lot of creature comforts to the traveling experience.
Cons:
While the van is equiped with the towing package - intended to pull boats, trailers & such - it totally ruins the transmission. The van's frame may be designed to pull such loads, but the vehicle's transmission isn't. Also, the plastic and wiring used in the MK III conversion are about as cheap as they come.
Overall review:
This is a great van. It gets decent, but not great, gas mileage. It is very roomy, comfortable and - when equiped with a conversion package - a pleasure to drive or ride in. Replacing the conversion audio/video wiring with heavy-duty automotive wiring is highly recomended, as is tossing out the towing package and never letting the thought of towing ANYTHING with this van cross your mind. Your transmission - and your wallet - will thank you later.
