Based on the Focus, the five-passenger C-Max hybrid is clever, well-finished, and practical. In testing we found it rides well and handles with agility. The regenerative braking system helps stretch fuel economy, but makes the pedal feel a bit touchy. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder and electric motor deliver smooth, adequate acceleration and seamless transitions, and we got 37 mpg overall in our tests.
