The GTI is Volkswagen’s sporty compact that was redesigned for 2010 with a more aggressive front end, sleeker profile and smoother hatch area. Offered as either a three-door or five-door hatchback, the GTI is the original hot hatch and is now in its sixth generation. Based on the Golf, the fifth-generation GTI was redesigned for 2006 with more dramatic exterior styling and a higher level of performance when the Golf was once again renamed Rabbit for the U.S. market. The five-door GTI was introduced for the first time as a 2007 model. The original Rabbit GTI debuted in the early 1980s with the promise of German performance and engineering in an affordable package and the GTI has now delivered on that promise for more than 30 years.
