The flagship of Toyota's sedan line was introduced in 1995, filling a spot left vacant when the Cressida was discontinued. Avalon is built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown, Kentucky, and is exclusive to North America. It has a high level of standard equipment and can be equipped to seat six adults. Toyota positions this car as a step up for owners of Camrys and other midsize sedans. In fact, during its development Avalon was known within the company as "Impala," a reference to the fact that Toyota's first full-size sedan is aimed squarely at the domestic products of General Motors and Chrysler. The Avalon has received major redesigns in 2000 and 2005. The sedan is completely redesigned again for the 2013 model year.
