The Jetta is Volkswagen's compact sedan that was first introduced in the mid-1980s as a slightly upscale version of the Rabbit hatchback and became Volkswagen's bestseller in the U.S. The fifth-generation Jetta was introduced as a mid-year 2005 model that looks bigger, bolder and with more power. The new Jetta debuted with a new 150-horsepower 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine developed specifically for the U.S. market. A 1.9-liter TDI diesel with direct injection was added later in 2005 but discontinued after the 2007 model year. For 2009, the TDI returns with lower emissions and better efficiency.
