The Golf is Volkswagen’s compact hatchback which was redesigned for 2010 and returns to the Golf name for the U.S. market. Always known as the Golf in other markets, the first generation Golf was sold in the U.S. as the Rabbit. The Golf name was adopted for the U.S. market as well with the debut of the second-generation Golf for the 1985 model year. Volkswagen brought back the Rabbit name in the U.S. for the 2007 model year. For 2012, Volkswagen brought back the Golf R, last seen in the U.S. in 2008, this time powered by a high-performance 256-horsepower version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter TSI engine.
