The Yaris is Toyota’s subcompact passenger car that replaced the ECHO for the U.S. market as a 2007 model in the spring of 2006. First launched in Europe in 1999, the Yaris was named the 2000 European "Car of the Year" and has become Toyota's best-selling model in the European market. The second-generation Yaris was styled at Toyota's European design studio, ED² and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Design Division. The Yaris is offered as both a liftback and a sedan for the U.S. and is designed to offer a level of style and fun-to-drive performance that is often not found in the subcompact class while the interior provides a surprising level of roominess and comfort. The Yaris was redesigned for 2012, with a longer wheelbase and a wider, more aggressive stance; upgraded interior materials and seats; a lighter, more fuel-efficient automatic transmission; and enhanced safety features.
