The 900 is Saab's bestseller by a three-to-one margin. Since the debut of the new design in model year 1994, the 900's sales have been on the increase. Saab's 900 occupies the lower end of the company's model range in America, and the car is one of very few available at any price as a 2-door or 4-door hatchback. The current version is the first Saab designed with input from General Motors, which acquired 50 percent ownership of Saab's automobile operations in 1990. Saab celebrated 50 years of automobile production last year. The company has been a pioneer in turbocharged passenger-car engines, particularly in the 900 series.
