One of the pioneering marques in the automotive world was created when Englishmen Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce joined forces in 1904. After taking a trip in a car that ran poorly and proved unreliable, Royce decided he could design a much better car, and did just that. Rolls-Royce motor cars of that time featured state-of-the-art engineering, and even then smooth, quiet operation was the major selling point. Today Rolls-Royce is owned by Volkswagen AG. While Rolls-Royces are favorites with monarchs, potentates and movie stars, a recent research study showed that Rolls-Royce owners are using their cars more often, and in the same ways the rest of us use our cars. When Rolls-Royce introduced the Silver Seraph in 1999, it was the first all-new Rolls in almost 20 years.
