The Cayenne S Hybrid is Porsche’s first production hybrid, based on the redesigned 2011 Cayenne sport-utility vehicle and powered by a parallel full hybrid system. The Cayenne S Hybrid is driven primarily by a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with DFI that develops 333 horsepower, but is combined with a 47-horsepower electric motor. Porsche’s Cayenne S Hybrid is able to drive on electric power only, but when the internal combustion engine is powering the vehicle, the electric motor is charging the battery like a generator. Professor Ferdinand Porsche created the Lohner-Porsche Semper Vivus in 1900, recognized today as the first functional full hybrid vehicle in the world.
