Originally a version of the Eighty Eight, the LSS became a separate model in 1996. While it shares the Eighty Eight's basic architecture, the details of the LSS reflect those of a European sports sedan: trim is body-color or black instead of chrome, the interior features bucket seats and a console-mounted gear selector, and the suspension is taut. Unique to the LSS is its optional supercharged V6, which produces 240 horsepower. The LSS is priced lower than the Aurora; Oldsmobile sees this car's buyer as someone younger and more inclined to consider sporty European sedans.
